Stand Up for Tennis in Alberta

It’s time to take back the Osten and Victor Alberta Tennis Centre. This facility belongs to Alberta’s tennis community.

The Osten and Victor Alberta Tennis Centre was built by Tennis Alberta, with public funds and donations, and in cooperation with Tennis Canada. It was intended to serve the public as a not-for-profit organization run by Tennis Alberta and to contribute back to the tennis community. However, since its opening in 2015 not a penny of its profits has been given to Tennis Alberta. Last year’s excess was more than $800,000. All of which should have gone back into supporting our athletes, promoting tennis through programs and camps, or anything in support of Alberta’s entire tennis community.

Get informed. Read through the resources here and please get involved. Speak up.

Osten and Victor is also known as:

  • TAATC, Tennis Alberta Acadia Tennis Center (legal name)
  • CITC, Calgary Indoor Tennis Club
  • ATC, Alberta Tennis Center
  • Acadia
  • Acadia Tennis Center

The facts and timeline

These fully public documents and resources show the negligence and corruption that has occurred in the development and eventual takeover of the tennis facility from Tennis Alberta.

Why this matters

Doing what’s right matters.

If Tennis Alberta takes back its facility and the funds that are generated from it, here are just a few ways in which they would benefit:

  • Would not be beholden to the givers of ever-shrinking grants and other funding sources
  • Offer scholarships for high-performance or low-income juniors (the average cost for a high-performance youth is $35,000/year)
  • Would have a reliable source of income and could develop an effective and reliable strategic plan for tennis in Alberta
  • Offer effective support for female athletes to keep them in the game
  • Could provide social programs for low-income households and seniors
  • Run socials, tournaments and events for all adult players to participate in
  • Could provide more tournaments, as Tennis Alberta would not be at the mercy of its member clubs or the City of Calgary to run tournaments
  • Bring more high-level tennis to the province for spectators
  • Could pay to send an Alberta coach to Nationals
  • Bring back the National Training Centre that was intended to be hosted at the Acadia facility (the program was kicked out of Acadia months after opening)
  • Promote and grow tennis throughout the province
  • Provide administrative offices for Tennis Alberta
  • Build more indoor courts in Calgary and other municipalities in Alberta
  • Afford more Tennis Alberta staff
  • Subsidize junior travel tournaments
  • Repair loss of trust and bring back faith in our Provincial Sport Organization

And the list could go on. We need your support. If you want to join us in fixing this problem or have more questions, contact us.
